“Always Listen to the Ravings of a Mad Woman: A Story of Sex, Porn and Postum in the land of Zion”

The Sacred Sister, March 31, 2007May 17, 2011

I grabbed this book by JulieAnn Henneman late yesterday afternoon. I had every intention of reading only a few chapters before Boston Legal (“Denny Crane!”) came on at 10 pm.
However, it didn’t work out that way…
At 1 am, I dragged my sorry and very tired butt to bed, having read the entire book in one sitting; stopping only for the occasional java refill in my Jack Mormon coffee mug, of course.

Gawd, I love a good read. I have the hardest time tearing myself away.

My Review
JulieAnn’s book is very realistic, laugh-out-loud-funny and the heroine, Corinne, was someone I could easily relate to. Her character development is excellent; I found myself interested in each and every character presented. The story kept me on the edge of my seat, there were several different plot twists and unexpected surprises.

Corinne converted to Mormonism when she was 16. She did it for the reasons so many people convert; acceptance, support, love and… oh yeah… that hunky senior, Brent Young.
Fast forward several years, Brent and Corinne are now married. Corinne is a stay-at-home mom, raising her two children in Mormon suburbia. She’s an inactive member of the LDS church but receives the occasional lesson from her faithful visiting teachers, “Sister Bright and Sister Sunny”.

It was the little comments like that, that made me smile throughout the story. She keeps the tone light, even though the subject of pornography and addiction is a serious topic. There are a few steamy scenes throughout the book, but they are very tastefully written.
JulieAnn is obviously very well educated on the subject of addiction and recovery. I found myself reliving those not-so-great days of therapy, when I worked on my own recovery.
“Ravings…” is definitely top notch work and it was a delight to read. I highly recommend this author and I eagerly await the completion of her next book, “Screwdriver. Mormons. Swingers. Murder.”
Be sure to keep the coffee perking and your tissues handy when you read this one!!

I give it 5 out of 5 seer stones:

An LDS mission strange and fascinating experience. Up until recently, though, it’s been tricky for people to get an idea of what a Mormon mission is really like without serving one. Part of the problem is that Mormon journals are supposed to be faith-promoting, in order to potentially serve as…

Thanks SML, I hope you do. You can get it on the publishers website or special order it (not through Barnes and Noble–they suck and it will take forever)

Thanks for this review! Any promotional help is appreciated. So glad you enjoyed the book, SS.
