Sunday in Outer Blogness: Ladies First Edition!

chanson, October 23, 2011

Fortunately someone came up with a satirical response to that awful tree (among other worthy targets). Unfortunately, it wasn’t the only nonsense the women had to put up with this past week — from minor slights on women’s music to major concerns about women’s health and safety. But women have ambitions too, and they aren’t just taking it.

Meanwhile, in the world of politics, the GOP is having some fun in Utah and beyond. Romney has flipped or flopped on the religious test question. Apparently that whole Mormon vs. Christian thing is still not sorted out. On the other side of the aisle, people are discussing a variety of issues such as energy and the environment, communities, population growth, the War on Terror (including killing people without any semblance of due process), and, of course, the 99% — with accompanying ideas on wealth and economics.

In other news, Donna Banta had a great time with fellow bloggers in Utah. the Bloggernacle has further discussion of boundaries. Some studies should be taken with a grain of salt. Kiley (Sulli) has written a letter and invited others to write their own letters to the newly disaffected (with a good response). Laura is not happy with the overuse of the word “Nazi”. General Conference doesn’t always bring families together. Invictus Pilgrim celebrates one year in which “it got better,” and Runtu is celebrating his new book.

Whew, that’s it for this weekend! I hope I can find the time to comment on some of these posts, and maybe write another post of my own one of these days. But somehow all the stuff I have to do seems to barely fit into the week — do you ever have weeks (or stretches of weeks) like that? Hopefully the rest of you all have better time-management skills. 😉 Happy reading!

I was going to call this the “Easter Edition,” but then I read about a study that claims that Mormons don’t care about Easter, and — if I can still be considered Mormon — I can provide an additional data point in favor of Mormons not caring about Easter. Sure,…

It’s waiting time! General Conference is upon us with all that entails! As usual, it will take a bit of time for the juiciest nuggets to hit the discussion circuit. Apparently there’s also supposed to be something newsworthy in the batch of leaked documents that we’ll be hearing about soon….

This week Elder Holland has launched another attack on secularism (which drew some criticism). On the other hand, a speaker at the FairMormon Conference advised Mormons to “make secularism an ally rather than a bogeyman.” With the rise of Trump some faithful Mormons are finally getting the picture that their…

Chanson, thanks as always for the shout outs. I had a great time meeting fellow bloggers last weekend — wish a certain writer from Switzerland could have made the trip. 🙂

Donna — Thanks, I wish I could have joined you!

Maybe we can meet at Sunstone 2012! I’ve written to Mary Ellen Robertson about the possibility of doing some Outer Blogness panels — Let me know if you and the “White and Delightsome” crowd are interested in participating.

Yes – thanks for the shout-outs and for the links to some very cool blogs I did not know about. Also, I knew nothing about that “apple tree” controversy. Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss. OTOH, getting all righteously pissed off all over again can be inspiring. ; )

Yeah, I guess that’s what I get for following discussion groups of liberal Mormons — their well-meaning conservative Mormon friends think they’ll like stuff like that original apple tree image. Whereas we exmos don’t have to deal with quite the same dynamic. 😉
