Sunday in Outer Blogness: Happy New Year Edition!

chanson, December 28, 2014

It is time once again — in this pleasant holiday season — to see what people in the world of LDS-interest discussion are talking about! Like the importance of the virginity of Mary. The Expert Textperts put up a faithful holiday message referencing a Christmas song that I like for personal reasons. Plus, awards season is beginning!

This song is one of my absolute holiday favorites — hits all the right notes:

This week we have some feminism tips for men, plus a corresponding fail.

Analysis of Joseph Smith’s polygamy is as lively as ever. So Says Me provided an interesting comparison of how beliefs about God affect recovery from religious-based abuse.

The battle over beards is red-hot these days — give your opinion here!

In philosophy, the Church of the Fridge offered some interesting points on religious freedom as well as thought-provoking insights about Superman:

Superman is a pretty cool guy, one of the first things the song explains is he isn’t in it for the money. He helps other people for one simple reason. Because he can. This is something worth emulating I think. Taking on not only personal responsibility, but taking on responsibility for others because he is capable of making a difference.

In fun, Ex-Mormon Tales gave a bit of a Mormon-themed gift guide, Ziff analyzed the claim that the CoJCoL-dS is obsessed with porn, and Knotty discussed the finer points of the privilege of replacing the janitors.

Scripture study is still going strong, with a new series on homosexuality in the Bible.

Speaking of homosexuality, have you seen the new gay Mormon reality show?

In books, I feel like I need to get more info on The Bishop’s Wife, even if Theric Jepson has compared it unfavorably with City of Brick and Shadow.

In life journeys, Heath Workman explained what it would take to get him back to church, and Eric has shared the tale of his epilepsy. Heather has started a new blog — I wish I had a link to it! And I personally posted my yearly status on my goals in anticipation of the new year.

Happy New Year to all!!

The challenge to BYU’s accreditation has hit the presses!! Let’s see what happens! Theoretically it’s OK to be gay at BYU, but not everybody got the memo. In the meantime, FreeBYU has started posting profiles. And what is the CoCJoL-dS up to these days? I mean, besides conference. Not what…

One year ago yesterday, the members of the CoJCoL-dS learned that their church had launched a new policy of excluding the children of same-sex couples from the church’s principal ordinances. This one event broke many people’s hope that the CoJCoL-dS would one day do right by its LGBTQ members, and…

I whole-heartedly support the advice not to burn too many bridges on your way out of the LDS church. But, on the other side of the coin, it’s hard when believers take your disaffection too personally … to the point of debating whether it’s offensive to order coffee in an…
