You knew it was coming, and now it’s here’s: the first exmo response to the LDS mormon.org ad campaign.

“Hi, my name is Robert, and I’m an ex-Mormon.”

Within the ex-Mormon community…or at least, the ex-Mormon community as it thrives online, on websites, blogs throughout Outer Blogness, forums, etc., there seems to be this common exit narrative. (Daymon Smith has a post deconstructing the synthesis of this new identity, but I couldn’t decipher his blog post well enough…

    Fantastic!!

I should get my act together and make one of those, too. I’ll be visiting my family next week, and I know they have videocameras…

That’d be a hoot, chanson. You’re destined for stardom.

That is wonderful! The exMo stereotype is every bit as pernicious as the Mormon stereotype. How great would it be if others could realize that we’re just people!

Before the year’s out, I think we should all commit to contributing an ad. At the very least, I’m already planning to run one of those contests I’m so fond of and hand out an award. That said, Robert’s gonna be tough to beat.

    Very nice!

I believe all exmo’s can remember good experiences that occurred when we were members. I am so very grateful I began really thinking about my concerns with TSCC. I always knew deep down inside, many things simply weren’t “true” as they claimed. This process opened the door to such a better life. Honestly, I had no idea life could really so incredibly good, peaceful, and fulfilling without TSCC. But hey, it is! And, that’s my testimony. Woo hoo! 🙂

I definitely liked how he wasn’t all, “raaghg raaaggh raaagh” — it was very nostalgic. but at the end, the integrity wasn’t there for him.

Very well done ad. But does Robert really do all those active things? Tell him to stop it. He’s making the rest of us look bad!

Watch John Dehlin tell ABC News:

There’s a difference between what the prophets teach us and what this PR campaign is holding up.

    Wow. Go, John.

ProfXM: Anyone interested in creating an ad is invited to consider this offer of help over at this thread:

The following is a message from the creator of the “I’m Robert, and I’m an exmormon” ad. He wishes to remain anonymous, but will monitor responses to this post and may PM those who respond.

I am excited about the response to my first video “Hi, I’m Robert, and I’m an ex Mormon” and I want to ride on that success and make more- the only problem is I need people willing to be in the videos! I have recently found someone who may want to sponsor my video projects which will allow me to travel- which means I might be able to film anywhere in the US or Canada if things go as planned.

Anyone up for being the next “Hi I’m an ex Mormon”?

Running the contest will be the easy part (all we have to do is set up a PollDaddy poll just like chanson did for our previous contests).

Warning: The title is the only thing remotely funny about this latest spoof. I’m just dropping the link here for future reference: Hi, I’m Nephi Christianson. I am a heroin addict and I’m a Mormon.
