Im Lyndon Lamborn and Im no longer a Mormon.

Chino Blanco, November 29, 2010

I am a born in the covenant fourth generation pioneer heritage Mormon, with polygamists on both sides of the family tree. I held every important priesthood leadership calling as a youth, was on the Logan High School Seminary Council, served an honorable and successful (above average baptisms and a six-month assignment as Branch President) mission to Belgium and France 1977-79. During the years following my mission I served as Elders Quorum President four times, served as a stake missionary and in the Stake Mission Presidency, was a ward membership clerk, and scoutmaster for 6 years.

Do people leave the church for greener grass?

I was just reading a fascinating new post at Times & Seasons — Wanted: Greener Grass. I won’t lie; part of what amused me was the link to a study of children’s drawings that captured their preconceived notions of what kind of person a scientist is (with implications as to…

Hi, my name is Nagla, and I’m a Muslim

September 1, 2010May 17, 2011

Nagla and her crew obviously shot this on a slightly tighter budget than what Josh and Aron had to work with. Not that I begrudge our dueling skateboarders the benefit of the best production values that Mormon and Scientologist money can buy (Josh and Aron deserve no less, considering that…

Casualties of the Churchs Stance on Homosexuality: Stories from the Salt Lake Mormon Stories Conference

June 14, 2011June 14, 2011

I have to say that, a year ago, I knew of only a handful of LDS families that were said to have gay members, but I knew nothing of any challenges they may have faced because of this. I had no knowledge of damage that had been done to families…

“Any time you embrace a falsehood, it handicaps you from understanding the universe.” That’s powerful.

I also enjoyed Lyndon’s address called “Chased out of Mormonism” on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/user/ExmormonFoundation#p/u/5/TTKKHCy_HFc It inspired me to be more (politely) courageous in standing before church leaders, even if I haven’t had to do it so far. He is a pretty amazing guy.

Thanks for the link, Donnell. That was fascinating. I watched all six parts.

“Full disclosure.” That’s key. Any organization, religious or not, whose leaders feel that it needs to hide parts of its history and beliefs, is trying to put something over on both its members and the world, and one should run away from those groups as fast as possible.

If you say you quit the church to a Mormon they treat you like you’re the devel! I was told that all my temple blessings would be revolked. I feel more like a curse was lifted though.

If you say you prayed about it and nothing happened then there must be something wrong with you and you are not worthy of an answer from god so I always say yes god answered me and said the Mormon church is not true and that I should start my own church and be a prophet, and charge everyone 10 percent of everything then make a book just like Miller and the “Millerites”, then also I should marry a whole bunch of people who are already married.

How is what i said more ridiculous than Joseph Smith yet a whole bunch a people believed it and kept it going.
