Sunday in OuterBlogness: Here’s to Life Edition!

chanson, January 25, 2009November 9, 2011

The big news — that you’ve probably all seen by now — is that two of our good friends from Outer Blogness have found love and happiness together! Congratulations Equality and Sister Mary Lisa!!!

On that note, there’s been a bunch of other reports of homey family news. Christy toasts her best friend’s wedding, Allison reminisces about comfort food, Keri has some rather stressful interactions with her father, La attends a baptism, and Simian has a cute story about his 7-y-o son:

Last night I was watching a pre-inauguration show and the panel was discussing the fact that Obama was to be our first black president. My son Hunter got a puzzled look on his face and said, “Obama is the first black, I mean, African American President?”. He couldn’t understand why there had never been a black president.

Wow, things have sure changed since Brigham Young’s day!

In the “moving on from Mormonism” department, Craig gives a retrospective of his year outside the church, and wonders how or if he can rebuild relationships with LDS family members. Hüffenhardt gives his response to a member who says: “I’m not interested in changing your belief system or world view or arguing doctrines, I just want to respectfully hear the points of view of anybody willing to share them.” And don’t miss Etienne’s “Falling into Life” — chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6!!

On to the comparative religions department: Froggey shows the expression of the ethic of reciprocity (the golden rule) in various traditions. Runtu ruminates on a new cult with a less-than-charismatic leader, who, nontheless, is considered divinely sexy by his young, female followers. Soy Yo discusses whether there may be some advantages to having paid clergy. And my personal favorite aspect of Mormonism: the divinely inspired P.R. and market research department!

The Josh Duggar incest/molestation scandal has been the big topic of discussion and analysis this past week. Allison — absolutely!! It’s a fun topic, and of course we’re interested in talking about stuff other than Mormonism here at MSP. The one that surprised me the most: potato chips dipped in jello. I’ve gotta try that! 😉

Ok, the fact the LDS church did a survery to dtermine what people thought of them and their view of homosexuality is pretty funny. They took away a groups rights and they thought certain people’s rights to marry, and they thought people would be ok with that? I sincerely don’t think they realized people would hate them for it.

I think they thought people would be more than ok it it — they were hoping people would be impressed and thank them. lol. This is the problem with being run by a genentocracy: the leadership is still living in 1960…
