Did anyone else catch this gem from the Utah State Legislature: Utah Delivers Vote of No Confidence to ‘Climate Alarmists’. Basically the Utah State Legislature passed a bill saying that global warming was a conspiracy and demanded that the Environmental Protection Agency stop regulating greenhouse gases.
Sadly, I can’t say this is all that surprising considering who the state representatives are (um, Chris Buttars, need I say more?!?). Not to be outdone by loony Chris Buttars, uber-loony Mike Noel, claimed that “environmentalists were part of a vast conspiracy to destroy the American way of life and control world population through forced sterilisation and abortion.” The article ends with a “great” (i.e., disturbing) quote by Noel, “Sometimes … we need to have the courage to do nothing.” Who elects these people?
Luckily, not my district.
I dont know much about Utah politics, but put me down as a man-caused climate change skeptic too. I’m a professional scientist well versed in the scientific method, and the climate change crowd seem more like religious zealots than scientists to me. Moreover, if mankind is changing the climate, the global political reality makes the issue moot. In the short term of the next few generations, the developing world will not cease ever increasing carbon emissions dwarfing whatever the developed countries might do to reverse the trend. Since theres then no rationale for the developed countries to do anything, politicians who call for purposeless sacrifice look as foolish as they are and the voters will sweep them out, etc. In short, Chicken Little gets ignored, just as he should be.
Well I guess there is something to be said for Steve’s position to eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die. Not much, but something.
What I see is the great majority of scientist who study climate change data interpret that data as showing global warming. Not all agree that it is human caused (some think it is cyclical). The zealots seem to be those who claim it is all a hoax, and the scientist are being bought off by the government, via research grants. These same people probably think cancer is a hoax too, and scientist are being bought off with research grants in that area as well to shore up the arguments for a public health insurance option, for the express purpose of making most US Citizens depend on big government.
Whether or not you think greenhouse gases are warming the Earth, they certainly make for nasty winter inversions. Don’t these legislators breathe air?
Psst: I hate to spoil the fun, but the alternate universe is inhabited by those who insist that gender has no meaning in marriage, and that evidence has no meaning in science.
Those who insist that gender is fundamental to marriage, and evidence fundamental to science will keep the light on for you.
Of course, gender is essential to marriage, Rick. Men and women should both be allowed to get married.
Gender discrimination in marriage would be horrible.

Nobody cares about your pet issue any more, not even conservatives (well, OK, 1% of CPAC attendees apparently care, but otherwise, the debate is over for nearly everyone who’s not getting paid to continue inhabiting your weird universe).
Next time, instead of spamming an unrelated thread, just drop a note letting us know you’re bored and missing your playpals Frank and Jeff and Robby, and we’ll see what we can do to indulge you, but it won’t be on a thread about global warming.

I’m sorry we never had that debate in Maine, but as I told you at the time, your allowing ugly gaybashing comments to stay up on the official Yes on 1 Facebook page convinced me that you guys weren’t worth the effort.
And I’m sorry for this threadjack. For anyone who’s been following along, without a doubt, this year’s session has been downright weird, even for Utah.
The problem with traditionalists is, Chino, that they do not understand the past.
If they did, they would realize that marriage is a social construct that is subject to adaptations across time and space.
I doubt that Rick’s marriage has much in common with a marriage among Pashtuns or with a 19th century marriage in Maine.
Whether adaptations are effective is empirical question. I find it curious that no opponent of marriage equality can specify the observables of our civilization’s doom.
