Mormon Alumni Association Books website — first draft is done!!

chanson, March 29, 2013

Hey everyone!! As the title of this post suggests, I finally got the first draft done of the MAA Books website!! Many of you have no doubt clicked on the little sidebar button and found some strange, partially-functioning page. Well, now when you click on it, you’ll see a page highlighting a randomly-chosen book from the MAA list — and you can select a different one by clicking on the cover images in the sidebar!!

It only took me about six months to do it. That’s not six months of labor, mind you — it’s six months of gathering up an hour or two every three or four weeks to work on it. And please be impressed that I did not work from any kind of template or website-creation software. I did the whole thing from imagining in my head what I wanted it to look like, and then googling what is the php syntax to do this or that. (IRL I’m a software engineer, but website development is not my specialty.)

To authors: Please look at your book’s page and give me feedback (any errors, like/dislike the choice of colors/reviews/blurbs, etc.). If your book does not appear on this site and you think it should, please email me: chanson dot exmormon at gmail dot com.

What do you think?

What’s the fun of having a little power if you don’t abuse it? Especially if you’re a teenager. If you’ve served in one of the youth presidencies in a Mormon ward, you probably think they don’t really have the authority to shape policy in any original or interesting way, but…

Since I began writing about my former life within Mormonism, countless true believers have asked me: “So Donna, if the LDS Church is ‘false,’ why are there so many websites, blogs, bulletin boards, and groups out there to help people who leave the Church? After all, Satan doesn’t need those…

Chanson, it looks great! My page is perfect. 🙂

Is it possible to add a scroll to the sidebar? I noticed that it’s hard to figure out how many books there are–the sidebar changes when you click on a new book.

Either way I LOVE it! Good job and thanks for doing this for us.

@3 Which browser are you using? I’ve only tested on Firefox and Safari, but for me the sidebar has a scrollbar.

I think Safari, but it’s probably me then. (Typical.) The site looks great.
