Sunday in Outer Blogness: Surviving Edition!

chanson, June 2, 2013

I’m looking forward to hearing what happens at the Pride Parade, especially considering the controversy! If it’s not too late, here‘s a guide for straight allies. Sometimes marriage comes just in time!!

Yet sometimes surviving is a bit more complex. Whether you’re surviving a new culture, a religious upbringing and a faith transition, coming out as a gay-Mormon athlete, or depression as a missionary.

In theology, the problem with obedience and God-given rights, why atheist and not agnostic, and is tithing for salvation really a voluntary gift?

In child-rearing fun, a beautiful homemade kitchen set, trying to find some dirty lyrics, donate your old palm-pilots, BYU as Pride and Prejudice without the sex, watch your sons’ showers, and is the Bible really appropriate for kids? Less cute, adult men interviewing young girls about “morality” and a month of lessons about “the prisethood” for young feminists as well as other gender inequality. Yet, crazily, things are better in the real world.

In other Mormon fun, we have moving back to the jello belt, the ten commandments of the Internet, converting to Mormonism because of the Book of Mormon (the Musical), Provo as a bikers paradise, and are you playing Monopoly with the wrong rules?

By this time next week I will have seen the “Book of Mormon” — the musical!! I hope you have an exciting week planned as well!!

May 29, 2016

I’ll admit it — the first time I heard the term “rape culture,” I rolled my eyes and thought, “that’s not really a thing — after all, we’ve made tremendous strides towards decreasing rape in our society, and nobody’s in favor of rape.” But, as I read more about it,…

It’s sad to see Summer vacation coming to a close, isn’t it? (For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, that is — I don’t know how the vacation schedule works down under…) In a highly controversial move, the president (of the US) has decided to open the school year…

The Pride controversy seems to be that some Boy Scouts decided to wear their uniforms, when “taking a position on social issues” is supposedly prohibited in the BSA. Ridiculous.
