December has just started, but the War on Christmas has already taken a rather frightening turn, according to these photos J. Seth Anderson found:
In other holiday ideas, check out these stocking stuffers or make your own, and don’t forget the less-fortunate!
There was an interesting theme this week about honesty, including true or false prophets and subtle omission of relevant information (sometimes on touchy subjects).
The LDS Newsroom agrees: LDS doctrine is hard to define. It also has various other problems, though at least some remember the hymns fondly. Other teachings and cultural items aren’t so cool…
In family: Are we really meant to be monogamous? Dating can be awkward, but visiting close family members and old friends can be difficult as well — and not without reason. (Have you ever been tempted to throw jokes into priesthood blessing?)
Once you’ve read all those interesting articles, relax and enjoy the last-episode-before-the-finale of Battle for Dream Island! This has absolutely nothing to do with Mormonism, but please read my article here for why it’s cool. And then please vote for one of the characters to win (before December 10th) so they’ll get enough votes and make another season!
Happy Holidays!!
This is me setting aside my disdain for asshole leftist America-hating Communists like Seth and congratulating him on his book. Congrats!
Seriously, though, I don’t have a problem with hunting or guns. I look forward to adding field dressing a deer to my skill set (I left home before I ever had the chance to go hunting with my dad, but I intend to rectify that).
The only thing that bugs me about Seth’s photos is that they remind me too much of this:
Growing up in a house full of guns (and a farm where slaughter was a fact of life), there was never any glorification of the lethality of the killing machine of choice. Maybe that’s why I never understood the whole suburban fascination with gangsta culture (or the even nuttier cracker culture on display in Seth’s photos).
I don’t object to hunting or responsible gun ownership, but posing with Santa and your kids and military-grade assault weaponry has a bit of a WTF? factor…
Anyway, J. Seth’s book looks great, doesn’t it? And speaking of books, did you see that Johnny Townsend’s book The Abominable Gayman was just named to Kirkus Reviews’ Best of 2011. Congrats Johnny!!
p.s. Your comments on that Mormons & political leaders post are hilarious — I’m glad they didn’t delete them!
I’ve made my own war on Christmas. No gifts this year. It’s all going to charity. Feels much better to me. See http://pearceonearth.com/a-different-kind-of-christmas
If Christ was born on April 6th, then “Christmas” should be celebrated then. In other words, we need to take the “mas” (catholic influence) out of the celebration. The end of Christmas would be a great victory in the “War with the Whore”. This is what I really believe about it: http://www.2bc.info/pdf/2BC-Xmas.pdf
Brandon — That’s a good idea. I hope others will follow.
Richard — So you’re saying that the Catholic church is the Whore of Babylon? Are you from a fundamentalist Mormon group? Or an independent Mormon fundamentalist? It was not clear from your website.
Hey chanson! I was searching for something on MSP and this post came up. I don’t know how I missed it in December! But I wanted to say thank you to you and Chino Blanco for the nice things you said about my book. 🙂 I appreciate it.
