There was quite a bit of discussion this week about our physical bodies! (Perhaps in honor of Suntone’s material culture theme? BTW, check out these cool Mormon artifacts! Did anyone else get awards like those?)
Specifically, it turns out that (despite that whole modesty thing) Mormons can be sexy. Yet the female body is still mysterious despite unfortunate invasions of privacy. For those who are still confused, just have a look at these beautiful ladies! In other not-exactly-news, atheists have great sex, yet are still strangely misunderstood.
Of course sex isn’t the only pleasure of life. There’s music; there are gatherings of friends over wine and good food (even on a budget). Meeting your new ward or church or meeting with your bishop (if you’re into that sort of thing). The churchless are working on building constructive communities — and why not? As noted earlier, non-Mormons in Utah could very well be the bluest state in the country (though perhaps the worst dressed?). Speaking of community-building, don’t forget public schools, public transportation, and remember — real grassroots are better than astroturf. And — while religion can lead to some questionable moral conclusions — hip urbanites aren’t all saints. And with all the discussion of the Book of Mormon musical, I think it’s important to highlight what some real Mormons are actually doing in Uganda.
In miscellaneous: you can read some interesting insights by a Mormon woman married to a gay man. Also, the Book of Abraham is a powerful missionary tool (even if you don’t like Joseph Smith on a personal level). Don’t miss Andrew’s best post ever! And have you seen the new Harry Potter? I’m looking forward to seeing the last one, though it may take a while.
Turns out baring one’s soul doesn’t get comments.
Best stick to polygamy and John Dehlin.
Just figuring that out now…? 😉
it’s one of those lessons I learn, and then forget, and then relearn. 😉
