If you agree that this is shameful exploitation of a senseless murder, please tweet this:
Mollie Ziegler Hemingway wants to pin a murder on Prop 8 backlash. Don’t let her. http://bit.ly/byhv0b #MZHemingway #GetReligion #Mormon
And leave a comment at Mollie’s post.
Thanks.
P.S. The below ad currently displays next to
Mollie’s Christianity Today article from last year:
Apparently, the Us vs. Them mentality is bad
(except when it fits Mollie’s persecution narrative).
P.S.S. (Note to self) I’ve posted additional comments on this topic at PostMo and FLAK.
Holy crap. I know her. I won’t say how, cuz, well, I’m embarrassed.
Cue persecution narrative at the cannery … Religious blogger reprises “The Jerk”: It can’t be random crazed killer mayhem, it must be that “He hates these cans!” http://bit.ly/byhv0b
Belaja – Don’t be (embarrassed). It happens. No fault of your own.
Oh, well. Actually we’ve only met once. I doubt she even remembers me. But we do have some significant connections through friends/family that make it kind of embarrassing. Thanks, though, cuz, you’re right–I didn’t create her or anything.
🙂
I have no idea if this is going to make it through Mollie moderation, so I’m pasting here just in case:
Thanks, Mollie. Its all coming back to me now and I remember the instance youre referring to. No worries. Ive long since expunged wingnut from my vocabulary and I think were good to go. Cheers!
Moving on, my sense is that this current thread mostly reveals a general lack of familiarity with the local reporting that was, in fact, quite well done (even if it did, to everyones apparent chagrin, neglect to focus on speculation regarding the possibility that the tragedy was the result of angry unwed anti-Mormon terrorists).
Never mind that CNN.com carried this story for two days.
More importantly, this is the comment I wanted to leave here from a Facebook friend:
In summary, what she said.
Here’s what I posted, watch her remove it once she visits here:
Used to be the meme was the Jews control the media. Now I guess, for people like Mollie, its become the Mormon-hating gays control the media. I guess thats progress?
Plus, as if that wasnt enough, Molly is also ignorant of Mormonism. Heres some basics. The LDS bishop is not like Christian bishop. He is a lay person who sets and collects the tithe and provides temple recommends that allow a member to visit the Temple. As such, he knows everybodys financial and personal secrets. No surprise if a Mormon bishop is killed by a former member of his Ward, Im only surprised it doesnt happen more often.
So Mollie, be aware that your hatred of gays and conspiracy-theory delusions are transparent to the world. And to repeat: Used to be the meme was the Jews control the media. Now I guess, for people like Mollie, its become the Mormon-hating gays control the media. I guess thats progress?
Your comment is still up. Good point about Mollie’s ostensibly pro-gay/anti-Mormon press.
Just dropping this off again in case it doesn’t get through …
@61: And to think I wouldve gotten away with it, too. If it werent for meddling kids like Blake Devoe. Drats!
And this cracked me up: Who knows what his real name really is. Oh, Mollie knows. But shes not saying anything, so Im glad to confirm that Jason Echols is my real name, Blake. Whats yours? Nancy Drew? In any case, those are some impressive internet sleuthing skillz youve got there.
@John Pack Lambert: Thank you. In your own inimitable way, youve provided an example of the dangers of mixing news reports with unfounded speculation.
