Sunday in Outer Blogness: Naughty Fun Edition!

chanson, August 7, 2011August 7, 2011

Just check out what Emily and Eliza and Molly and Kuri and Elder Young are up to!! Andrew is thinking of using naughty words, and Monica secretly appreciates getting checked out. Seth and Jill find some amusing Mormon double-meanings (while NPR misses an obvious Mormon connection). And who doesn’t love Jack Mormons? Really, even following the topic of Mormonism is a guilty pleasure. (Wouldn’t it be great if the church were true? Um, no.) At the same time, Eliza’s keeping it real, like Tom, who enjoys teaching Sunday School while staying totally honest about his beliefs.

Sadly, the frontier between belief and unbelief is full of conflict and debate! Don’t forget the sense of entitlement, abuse of friendships, and indoctrination that even believers are leery of. (Not that non-believers are all getting along or anything.) The new Student Review gives believers some new opportunities to carp about apostates — if this kind of defamation keeps up, we apostates will need to form our own defense league! (Let’s look at the score: Mormons get embarrassments like polygamy tempered by superhuman prophets with the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound, whereas the less-believing get life and death.)

Then, we have a grab-bag of fun and not-so-fun topics! I’ve been ignoring economic, military, and privacy politics lately in this round-up because they’re so depressing and I hardly know what to do about it. Talking to yourself or discussing privilege is somehow more fun. Or perhaps some personal stories of deconversion and mixed-orientation marriage. Oh, and this has been another interesting week for Scandinavia.

It’s still raining here in Switzerland — are you having a sunny Sunday?

I’m sensing a lot of discouragement out there in Internet-land.
