Sunday in Outer Blogness: “Happy Holidays” and Other Controversial Statements Edition!

chanson, December 19, 2010November 9, 2011

OK, so I know I talked about the “War on Christmas” last week, but it is really heating up! And I just have to share with you the latest:

First of all, I hear some folks are skipping Christmas or even hate it! Then, people are attacking Christmas with all sorts of heretical practices like questionable stores of Jesus’ childhood, accusing Him of being a Liberal Democrat, celebrating “Krismas”, having deep theological discussions of Frosty and Santa, lynching elves in effigy, making nativity scenes out of meat, sledding right by a church, mocking the angelic Pavarotti, and distributing a Mormon version of the Christmas Carol. Oh, how did this “War on Christmas” ever start?? (Hint: look here.) Seems like the only people spreading Christmas cheer are those wacky atheists!

If you are celebrating Christmas, check out this fantastic TBM gift guide and matching Christmas newsletter! And these cookies! And don’t forget that the most important thing this season is charity and service.

Now, as much as I hate to spend this Christmas season writing about stuff other than Christmas, I have to admit there were some other interesting topics in Outer Blogness this past week! You may recall that (despite some reservations) “Don’t ask, don’t tell” was finally repealed. But even on the gay front, we can focus instead on an amusing sideshow as the not-so-gay “reclaim” the rainbow.

In Mormon topics, the Swiss are ejecting the Mormon missionaries. At least the mishies still have the Internet! The Mormons are asking themselves why people don’t like them. The former believers, by contrast, reminisce about their Patriarchal blessings (and other blessings…). And don’t miss these tales of how the LDS manuals are cooked up!

Personal stories. Of tragedy. Of romance, love, marriage, parenting, family, and death. Of loud laughter and personal achievement. Of difficult issues. I guess that’s why we’re often introspecting.

Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night! 😀

Wow, just when you thought the CoJCoL-dS didn’t have a shred of integrity left to sell, they’re sending the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to perform for Trump’s inauguration. The same Trump that hasn’t even taken office yet in is already putting us all in an incomprehensible level of danger from both…

There seemed to be a lot of posts (and exhibits) about feminism this past week. Topics included women’s bodies and what they choose to wear on them. Also, power dynamics between women and men, not to mention women’s speech, women’s invisibility, with a dash of discussion on race and transgender…
