Pride parades this summer: Will MBB march again, and if so, will they allow signs that advocate equality?

May 13, 2013May 14, 2013

Summertime is upon us, which means it’s time for planning for the annual Pride parades.  Last year was the first time Mormons marched in Pride in large numbers.  The contingent in Salt Lake City was the largest, marching behind a banner titled Mormons Building Bridges (MBB).  MBB garnered nearly all…

Joseph vs. The Gold: Help me script it!

March 13, 2013March 5, 2013

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08wRRff8x0k Ever since seeing this not so good version on youtube, I’ve been wondering what a good recreation of the Joseph Smith run with the plates might look like.  It’s all based on Lucy Smith’s account: “The plates were secreted about three miles from home… Joseph, on coming to them,…

Great article. It makes me wonder if they are feeling the pressure now that more and more political officials are openly declaring their support for marriage equality. Six senators in one weekend is no small thing.

I think what has perhaps hurt the article’s popularity is that I’m a naysayer for Mormons Building Brides due to their “correlated discourse” policy that disallows discussion on the sin question. Sure, MBB works on the issues of bullying, youth homelessness and employment/housing discrimination, but so has Equality Utah for years and years. I refuse to give MBB a pat on the back until they make the “leap” that same-sex intimacy is not a sin (or at least, allow their individual members to express this at a Pride parade!!!)…

It’s like the feminism question. Piecemeal steps (such as letting a woman pray at General Conference) can seem like progress from the inside, but from the outside it looks like the patriarchal force field is as strong as ever.
