Midweek Mormon Reddit Gazette 2010-W18

I was talking with my nine year-old son the other night after spending a good part of the evening blogging. He showed some interest in what I was writing about, but it’s hard to explain to a nine year-old that there are people out there who want to destroy his religion and his personal faith in God.
Fave response to Greg West’s latest: “Haha. Classic. Buy your kid a microscope, then he won’t have to go to church anymore.”
Deseret News, Now Gentile Free … just over a year ago the seven-person editing corps on City Desk — the department where the news and business reporters work — included two women and four non-Mormons.
Glen Warchol explains: Let the weird begin*
*Speaking of weird, there’s little point in compiling a link blitz this week as long as Reddit remains on the fritz. If it’s not better by Week 19, I suppose I’ll have to think of a new name using Digg or StumbleUpon. RameumptUpon? Gah.
In the meantime, more weirdness …
Ill tell you what I think of this as missionary workI think it looks bad. What does it mean if any Mormon can get 200,000 other Mormons to click a button with him, and win a YouTube popularity contest? Its weird.
People liked doing this because it took no time or effort, so why not? But the result that costs nothing is worth nothing.
Not to mention, by YouTube standards, this particular effort was a flop. Just to put things in perspective: I’m one guy, I didn’t lift a finger to promote my most-viewed YouTube clip, and it’s been seen nearly twice as many times as Holland’s over-produced, over-promoted BOM testimonial.
It’s called: Seven-Year-Old Utah Boy Makes His Getaway From Church II (407,000 views and counting)
Live and learn, Elder Ballard.
Did you know? In Taiwan, the Helping Hands vests are white, not yellow!
As Fred Karger has said: “I think they do wonderful things. Nicest people. My single goal is to get them out of the [anti] same-sex marriage business and back to helping hurricane victims.”
Or cleaning parks. Either way, good on ’em.
If the bishop lives in Utah, hes not required to report the crime as long as its the perpetrator who confessed and not the victim.
USU administrators rebuffed calls to rescind Glover’s invitation or to edit any “anti-American” rhetoric out his speech. They cited his advocacy for social justice and ties to the university as the reasons for awarding him an honorary doctorate in humane letters.
Congrats, Dr. Glover!
Very frustrated at reddit myself this week. I convince some people to run ads, yourself included, for our reddit, and then reddit takes a vacation in the functionality department. Gah.
How does Andrew S get banned from BCC and Chino does not? It just doesn’t make any sense to me.
To me, either.
By the way, I enjoyed your initial post, Carson N. What Kevin Barney calls “diversity” – others (like me, for example) would probably call “confusion” – but so it goes.
Getting back to making sense of it all, does it make any sense that FMH is still considered part of the Bloggernacle? I just finished reading So who are you (ex/former/semi/cultural/neworder/middleway) Mormons anyhow? and my own sense (after reading that thread) is that the whole Bloggernacle v. DAMU thing is quickly becoming a distinction w/o a difference (mostly b/c – as loath as certain stubborn [mostly male] Bloggernacle types might be to admit it – we’re mostly writing for the same audience).
For example, re why I still bother to read Bloggernacle writers, this comment at that FMH link pretty much describes my motivation to a “T”:
It’s becoming increasingly irrelevant whether “here” can be located in a Bloggernacle or DAMU universe … and there’s little the long-time celebs/gatekeepers on either side can do to prevent the inevitable human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together and mass hysteria that must inevitably follow. It’s already happening.
Chino — so true! 😉
