Unsurprisingly, there’s been a lot of discussion this past week about the situation in Egypt. The Loathsome Joy has been covering it extensively, but other blogs have also made some interesting points about it. This one best expresses my biggest worry about it. Plus, the Wikileaks controversy turns out to be more complex that you may have expected (not to mention the economic outlook)….
Wow, looks like we need a culture war sideshow to simplify things a little!! Luckily, we can always count on Dallin Oaks to say something that will inspire some lively commentary. Then, of course, there’s P.Z. Myers, who — inspired by our own Andrew S. — got some atheists thinking, and prompted Kuri to post a list of anti-Mormon pet-peeves. Then there was a very funny incident where the NOM blog accidentally displayed pro-equality message. Can there be any subject more divisive than the gays? Oh, yeah, the guns.
Of course, even the culture wars can get tiresome. Maybe we should go with some amusing discussion and stories about our periods…? Swearing-and-parenting is another fun, light topic, right up there with how pagan holidays become Christian holidays.
In Theology, Kiley asks a difficult question about church participation after excommunication (related to Alan’s post): Is it a powerful stance of refusing to let them kick you out, or is it accepting a seat at the back of the bus? Dave asks about religion’s continued role for superstitious apes, and Facebook’s magical data analysis algorithms demonstrate eerie predictive powers. Britta shares a disturbing story about post-mortem matchmaking. And my brother — who grew up in the CoJCoL-dS — is creating his own possibilities of what Sunday School could be like without the chains of correlation.
And one last reminder: even if you’ve already voted for one of the 2010’s twenty most talked-about tenuously-Mormon superstars, it’s not too late to keep campaigning for your favorite!! You’ve got one more week until the 11th! Have a great week! đ

And speaking of heroes, the bloggernacle could use a few right about now, so here’s my suggestion: wildly successful newcomer Mormon blog “Wheat & Tares” should become the permanent home of “The Niblets” contest for best Mormon blogging.
There is simply too much good writing happening on both sides of the faith divide to allow an entire year to pass without taking a moment (i.e., several weeks) to recognize the folks who make it all worthwhile.
tl;dr: BT is falling down on the job, W&T is well-positioned to pick up the slack. Make it so.
