This would be a problem for Mitt Romney is Mormonism was more important Wanting-To-Be-President-ism for him.

  2. Jeff says:

And yet, as committed as this guy is to hatred and bigtory (as evidenced by his repeated use of the slur the Mormon Church), even hes been brainwashed into using the oxymoronic phrase gay marriage.

Like the tagline says, Jeff, “The stupid, it burns.” And from both ends, apparently.

Mormon homophobia is mostly the product of a know-nothing culture (that you’ve apparently taken it upon yourself to represent in all its glory here). That doesn’t somehow make Christianist ignorance any less appalling.

But, hey, rock on. There’s bound to be somebody up on the platform at the Values Voter Summit that represents the full spectrum of your bigotry.

Edit: “The Mormon Church” is a slur? Wow. Now I’m curious to understand exactly where it is that you hang out.

@2 & 3 — That’s funny, I read Jeff’s comment totally differently. I thought “(as evidenced by his repeated use of the slur the Mormon Church)” was a joke — chiding you for calling this guy an “anti-Mormon asshat” when the evidence for his “hatred and bigotry” is the use of the <sarcasm>terribly insulting</sarcasm> slur “The Mormon Church”. lol.

  5. chanson says:

OK, I just read some of the links, and “anti-Mormon asshat” is a pretty mild thing to be calling this lunatic. It seems a little odd to single out the term “The Mormon Church” as being among the worst of his offenses…

  6. Alan says:

Jeff’s comment is strange. It’s indicative of the strange politics that would bring a Mormon hated by evangelicals for his faith on stage with an evangelical: because they both hate the “gay agenda” even more. The real question is, will evangelicals vote for a Mormon because they hate the gay agenda more than they hate Mormonism? Or will they let Obama win, because (a) they hate Mormonism just the same if not more than the gay agenda and (b) they think Obama is an antichrist who will more quickly bring about the Second Coming?

The coverage of this guy reminds me of a joke I heard the other day:

jokester: A new super-secret ultra-right wing society has just formed. To get in, you have to demonstrate that you’re willing to kill three Muslims and a cat.

    bystander: Why a cat?

    jokester: OK, you’re in.

Talking about Fischer, it’s tempting to emphasize his “anti-bear” stance to illustrated how nutso he is. And yet, if you think about it, it illustrates the fact that anti-gay, anti-Muslim, and anti-Native American statements aren’t considered as shocking/crazy as they should be.

  8. Alan says:

@7: Well, in the joke, there’s no indication that the bystander doesn’t still have to kill the cat to gain entry into the society — just that the bystander is perhaps curiously amused by the requirement. The fact that Fischer is the famous one onstage in real life illustrates how you don’t get to be special unless you have some individualized grudge on top of the “normal” ones.

  9. Buffy says:

Fischer is pretty much anti-everything (except RRRW Christian).

  10. Tyler says:

I find it kind of funny how misinformed this is….

The church stopped polygamy and excommunicated members who wouldn’t stop…

And secondly….. The reformed LDS church isn’t the LDS church… Quit being so Naive people…

I can respect your hatred of my religion if that’s how you feel but get the facts….

  11. chanson says:

Tyler @10 — I’m not sure precisely which blog you meant to post your remark on, but perhaps it would be more relevant on a blog where people “hate your religion” and/or where people mentioned “the reformed LDS church”, whatever that is.

  12. Chino Blanco says:

Props to Mitt for actually pushing back a bit in his talk at VVS. Beck joined in the drama by declaring himself “a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ” (he later got an angry call from Ballard chewing him out for not including “of Latter-day Saints”).

Something tells me we’re gonna run out of popcorn for this one. Somebody pass the pork rinds, please.

  13. chanson says:

Cool — do you have a link for that? I was skimming the news about it, and basically just saw that the Mormons values voters were unhappy about the word “cult” getting tossed around.

No link yet for the subsequent Ballard-Beck telecom, but hopefully Russ will be making that available soon. 😉
